to Develop Game Manpower Via Online Learning Courses to
Move Thai Gaming Industry Forward to International Levels

 

October 28, 2021, Bangkok – The Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa) collaborated with the Thai Game Software Industry Association (TGA) and leading Thai eSports startup Infofed Co., Ltd and partnered from New Zealand Southeast Asia Centre of Asia-Pacific Excellence, Wellington Creative and Lane Street Studio to initiate the “depa Game Online Academy” project with an aim to provide knowledge for all stakeholders and people working in the gaming industry through an online learning platform. Participants are expected to leverage the knowledge gained from the online gaming academy initiative to enhance productivity and efficiency in organizations in a creative manner as well as developing the creative knowledge to further drive their career path and achieve professional goals. All participants’ creative achievements and outstanding works will be selected to serve as solutions for businesses. The “depa Game Online Academy” is strategically viewed as a crucial mechanism to drive Thailand’s gaming industry to meet international standards. The academy is also expected to optimize more than 500 talent manpower to serve Thailand’s gaming industry. The next-generation people are expected to participate in the “depa Game Online Academy” project as the applications are scheduled for late November.

Dr. Nuttapon Nimmanphatcharin, President/CEO of depa, said Thailand’s digital content industry has the potential and it is one of the world-class digital industries. Over the years, depa has continuously promoted and supported entrepreneurs in the digital content industry, especially business operators in the gaming industry. Lately, depa teamed up with strategic partners like the Thai Game Software Industry Association (TGA) and Infofed Co., Ltd, Southeast Asia Centre of Asia-Pacific Excellence, Wellington Creative and Lane Street Studio to launch the depa Game Online Academy project to upskill and enhance the potential of people in the gaming industry in Thailand through a series of online learning courses or online academy.

“The depa Game Online Academy project will be virtually carried out via website and mobile application. It is available in both iOS and Android operating systems. Learners can get access to a series of online learning courses, instructional videos, workshops, assessment and practice tests based on individual preferences, skills, and desires of each learner. All learners are expected to further develop the knowledge and skills obtained through the online academy to advance their career and enhance professional development and creativity. Their digital content achievements will be presented so that businesses and society will acknowledge their outstanding works in the future. depa expects more than 500 new-generation people to participate in the “depa Game Online Academy” project. They are expected to become future digital manpower to move the Thai gaming industry forward. The online academy is a major step forward to help steer the Thai gaming industry to reach the international level,” said the President/CEO of depa.

Meanwhile, Nenin Ananbanchachai, President of the Thai Game Software Industry Association (TGA), said according to the survey by depa jointly with IMC Institute report that the value of Thailand’s digital content industry including animated content, games, and digital characters, for 2022 is forecast to reach 45.094 billion baht, up 15% on average. It reflects ample opportunities ahead and emerging markets that are waiting for digital content developers and creators. The rising trend is not only seen in Thailand, but the global digital content industry is seeing remarkable growth direction.


“Dating back to decades ago, playing games was just a leisure activity to spend most of your free time. Only a few people can acknowledge that this is an opportunity to change gaming lifestyle into business opportunity and professional development like today. So, the depa Game Online Academy project is a game changer and key factor to help steer development of Thailand’s gaming industry. The project will help optimize the potential of game developers to be excellent in game design so that their competitiveness and competency will be on par with international, world-class game developers and game designers. They will have more potential and will be capable of producing and designing quality games,” added Nenin Ananbanchachai.
Jirayod Theppipit, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Infofed Co., Ltd, acknowledged that the gaming industry in the global markets and in Thailand has seen exponential and rapid growth over the years as the gaming market value is enormous. As a Thai who has seen a handful of successful Thai developers and designers in the industry, I am committed to supporting and pushing the Thai gaming industry to reach the international level. Infofed wants to be a major part of collaborative effort to promote an equitable learning environment among Thai people, Thai youths, and new-generation people. It can lead to an inclusive and sustainable growth of the gaming industry and businesses.
The depa Game Online Academy project is an e-learning platform development available in website and mobile application formats. It is complete with user-friendly design, feature, and interface with the Pre-Test feature created as the baseline data to select the most suitable topics for learners. There is also the Post-Test assessment in which learners of each learning course who have scores of more than 80% will receive an e-Certificate. Content and topics available on the e-learning platform are divided into 4 programs as follows;
1. G. Academy in Art, the fundamental course for game developers and general people who are interested in advancing game development skills. The learning course focuses mainly on enhancing the potential and competency of game developers and designers to provide them with essential skills required in game design, including architecture in gaming, by Thai experts and international specialists and speakers.
2. G. Academy in Design features a series of learning programs about developing characters and setting up barriers and challenges in order to make a game more inspiring and captivating for an immersive gaming experience. This learning course aims for game developers and designers to be able to create a story line and case study. G. Academy in Design will be conducted by local and international experts. Learners are expected to leverage the knowledge and essential skills obtained from the G. Academy in Design program and apply to their works.
3. G. Academy in Programming focuses on synergizing three key factors, including artists and game designers, in order to make each game character and environment in the game more realistic or as close to the real world as possible through using programs developed and provided by business operators.
4. G.Academy in Character features essential learning courses and content to comprehensively create game characters so that learners can make the most of knowledge gained from the learning program for the highest benefits of their works and professions.
